The Delta Urban Soils Laboratory is a hub for research, educational, and training programs for students of various backgrounds. Dr. Paltseva’s urban soils science program consists of four courses (Soil Science, Environmental Pedology, Soils & Plant Relationships, Urban Soils & Climate Resiliency), six different research projects, laboratory testing services, and informal education to communities via public talks and soil workshops for kids.

Students have intense training in basic and advanced aspects of soil in a traditional classroom setting and on field trips to local environmental facilities. As a result, students join the lab to conduct internships where they apply learned skills and test soils for clients across the country. Graduate students also conduct research funded by state and federal grants or become teaching assistants. The Delta Urban Soils Laboratory team works closely with undergraduate students on field sampling and soil testing integrated in coursework.

Unique guest lectures by international and American scientists and professionals are an integrated component of the courses. Our program is still growing, and students have an opportunity to contribute to its development and gain new experiences.
